Pulaski Power Outage August 17, 2014 Print E-mail

PRESS RELEASE

PULASKI POLICE DEPARTMENT

August 15, 2014

August 17, 2014 beginning at 9:00 P.M. and lasting until approximately 5:00 A.M. Monday morning, AEP will be performing power grid maintenance which will result in electricity not being transmitted to various areas of the town of Pulaski. The affected area is generally bordered by the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks to the south and then to areas to the north and east of Randolph Avenue.

The police department has visited business locations within the town to supplement the previous notices of this outage and inquire about the physical security of various facilities. It was discovered that numerous businesses were planning to have employees stationed within their buildings or have hired armed security guards for the duration of this event.

The police department will have a minimum of ten officers on duty during the hours of the outage. Officers will be patrolling on foot, bicycles, and police cruisers.

Citizens should prepare for special needs in advance of this loss of electrical power. Residents that only have cellular telephones need to have the batteries charged to ensure that they have communication for emergency services. Individuals that require supplemental oxygen might consider having sufficient extra canisters to last beyond the eight hour period. People that require supplemental equipment that must be operated by electricity could secure a generator or determine if their apparatus could be energized by battery power. If, someone cannot utilize alternative measures, then staying the night in a local motel could provide a reasonable solution.

If, you require non-emergency assistance, please call the department at 994-8680. As always, dial 911 for emergency assistance.
