The Town of Pulaski is located about 50 miles south of Roanoke and is situated within the New River Valley of Southwest Virginia. The Town encompasses an area of 7.8 square miles with a population of approximately 8,983 residents. The Department is currently funded for twenty eight sworn officers, six communications officers, and three non-sworn employees. The Department is under the leadership of Chief Gary W. Roche.
The Pulaski Police Department was the fifty-eighth law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of Virginia to be accredited by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC) on November 16, 2006. A law enforcement agency being awarded accredited status, demonstrates that the organization is in compliance with the professional standards promulgated by the Commission. The Department received its first re-accreditation on December 2, 2010 and is scheduled for another assessment September 2014.

The mission of the Pulaski Police Department is to commit itself to a partnership with the community, to ensure quality law enforcement, to safeguard all constitutional rights and maintain public confidence. The police department will strive to safeguard citizens’ lives and property using the best available resources to identify, apprehend, and prosecute violators of the law.
Vision Statement
We, the officers and staff of the Pulaski Police Department, strive for a public perception that views this agency and its members as trusted leaders in their community. The decisions we make everyday affects the quality of life in the Town of Pulaski. The central themes underlying this philosophy are values that guide our actions while we discharge those responsibilities entrusted to us. Our prime directive is to do what is right even when no one is watching. We embrace our community with a spirit of trust through a moral foundation of integrity, a code of ethics, and a philosophy of being the community’s helping hand.
The men and women of the Police Department value human life, honesty, and Constitutions of the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia. We also value the Body of Law, our community, problem solving with our citizens, excellence in the performance of our duties, accountability for our actions, along with the cooperation and teamwork among our members.
