HISTORY
The Pulaski Police Department once participated in a regional S.W.A.T Team with Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and Dublin Police Department. In 1995, the Pulaski Police Department formed a S.W.A.T. team of their own. This team deactivated in 1999 due to personel shortages but was re-instated in 2005 under the direction of Capt. A.C. Meredith.
RESPONSIBILITY
The primary responsibility of the S.W.A.T Team consists of handling situations that call for special equipment and tactics; and/or high-risk situations that exceed above the normal response of a Patrol Officer. This type of situation includes, but is not limited to; barricaded situations, hostage situations, and high risk warrant service.
OFFICER TRAINING AND EQUIPMENT
The S.W.A.T. Team is comprised of officer volunteers who have passed rigorous physical and firearms examinations. Since re-activation in 2005, members of this team have trained through Lead Consultants; completing the Basic and Advanced Tactical Operations Training. The S.W.A.T. Team has recently upgraded the department tactical equipment through grant funds provided by Homeland Defense.
